This is the first phase of this multi-level project. This is a recycled prefab metal building that was formerly in Oakland for over 30 years. It came in pieces with old plans with a lot of damaged or broken members. It needed to be upgraded to current code standards and adjust for new building dimensions.
All the Roof Frames, Purlins and Girts are from the original building. The Roof and Wall Metal Decking are also recycled from the old building.
This is the first phase of this building. It will house 2 sets of railroad tracks, offices, repair pits, crane system and a turntable is to be built outside.
Other phases of the project will be a train station, a 3/4 mile loop track and a Steam Locomotive outdoor Museum. All this will be in conjunction with the new Mendocino Country Railroad Museum. All this in a park like setting that includes 2 Little League fields, a football field, concessions and new parking. This will be a great project for the City of Willits and the County of Mendocino when completed. Watch it evolve over the years.
Roots of Motive Power will manage the railroad
operations and are the owners of this new building.
